    Bureau of Foreign Trade holds ASEAN Furnishing Business Exchange Meeting, CDRI invites FERRO-CARBON and Best & Chunlin Furniture to share the Southbound Business Strategy

      The Bureau of Foreign Trade assisted Taiwanese companies to make progress in the South Asia and the expansion in ASEAN markets under various promotional measures. This year (2018), CDRI is commissioned by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA, on the project of “High Quality and Parity Emerging Market Optimization Program”, conducts market research and new marketing strategy for ASEAN/Indian markets, and assists Taiwan’s home furnishing industry in exporting and new media and technology. The “ASEAN Furnishing Business Opportunity Exchange” meeting was held today (22nd June), former participants of the program such as FERRO-CARBON and Best & Chunlin were invited to share successful overseas experience with furnishing suppliers in Taichung.

      Janice Huang, the program executor from CDRI also attended the meeting, she explained that Taiwanese furnishing companies are facing many challenges, such as difficulties on finding buyers, display difficulties, and lack of business information. Malaysia and Thailand’s household consumption expenditure is the top three in ASEAN, both are worthier for Taiwanese to put effort in the markets than other ASEAN countries. Last year, the new technology of VR, AR have been applied for the expansion to Malaysia, broke the space-time restrictions for Taiwanese companies; this year, local on-line celebrities will be invited for the better visibility of Taiwanese products.

      The special assistant of the GM of FERRO-CARBON Ms. Hu shared the experience of the company, they started OEM in the beginning and turned into OBM since 2009, branding was costly and time consuming, but it was an inevitable progress. FECA invented the “ FECA magic suction cup ”  with new concept of housing, and has successfully opened new stores in Malaysia with the help of “High Quality and Parity Emerging Market Optimization Program”. It is expected to open new stores in another city this year. The GM of Best & Chunlin Furniture also shared their experience of expanding in Malaysia. Open physical stores in the country is stressful, but with the understanding of the differences between Malays and Chinese preferences, commodity adjustments are made and the results are stable. However, GM Yu reminded that the political influence in ASEAN countries should be taken carefully.
