Chairman Tain-Tsair Hsu of CDRI pointed out in his speech that Taiwan is facing a similar situation with Japan. The main problems are as below:
    1. "Aging Society": Taiwan will enter the ultra-aged society in another nine years, and the speed of change will be very fast. At that time, the industrial pattern, productivity structure and population will also change. It is necessary to rely on "technology" to help such a drastic change.
    2. “Long-term productivity reduction": Taiwan's service industry began to grow in 2000. The average annual growth rate of manufacturing GDP output in the 15 years before 2000 was 6.1%, and the service industry was 9.1%. But in 2001-2015 the GDP of manufacturing industry fell to 5.3%, and the service industry fell to 2.7%. It is obvious that productivity has fallen sharply, and is too much concentrated on ICT, which also need the assistance of digital technology.
    3. “The imbalance of system development”: including regional industry, imbalance of generations and other aspects. According to the market survey organization, the growth rate of global e-commerce in the next four years will be as high as 95%. Taiwan's e-commerce industry is estimated to grow by 7% every year. Therefore, transformation and innovation are the only solution.

Chairman Tain-Tsair Hsu emphasized that Taiwan should think highly of AI and blockchain. However, chairman Hsu also reminded that the funds should be concentrated and the scale should be comprehensive, so that resources won’t be wasted.

The forum attracted about 250 people from wholesale, retail, catering, accommodation, communication technology industry and other sectors to participate. The feedbacks are enthusiastic and the attendees hope to bring new ideas for the transformation of innovative service industry through the exchanging of technologies and experience sharing during the forum.
