Hosted by the Bureau of Foreign Trade and Commercial Development Institute, “Shining! Emerging Markets & Innovation to Succeed─2015 International Summit Forum” took place on 12/2-3. As stated by Minister of Economic Affairs, John Deng, “This project to promote high-value products in emerging markets in the past six years has helped to sell high-quality Taiwan products to China, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines with comprehensive assistance to Taiwan enterprises. The program also increases the percentage of final products made in Taiwan from 6.8% in 2009 to 9.9% in 2015 as well as US dollar value from US$4.53 billion in 2009 to US$ 9.6 billion in 2014.”

The ASEAN region is set to become the fastest growing region worldwide according to the estimates of the IMF. ASEAN economies and India will have an economic scale in domestic demand based markets of US$ 7 trillion.

Entrusted by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, the Commercial Development Research Institute has promoted a “Project to Promote High Value Products in Emerging Markets” that has consulted with 55,000 enterprises, subsidized 120 innovative product based projects, developed 148 new products, and cultivated seven international enterprises or mid-sized brands with exports to China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines growing by 112% between 2010 and 2015.

Outstanding achievements have been seen via three platforms. The “Innovative R&D and Production Platform” assisted 20 enterprises including ASUS, VEDAN, BenQ, and Karma to expand in emerging markets by creating overseas revenue of NT$3 billion; the “International Marketing Integrated Platform” organized 41 experiential exhibitions for international buyers to come to Taiwan and invited 1,161 buyers to facilitate business opportunities of US$19 billion; and the “Environmental Cultivation and Shaping Platform” enabled 1,500 home appliance makers to take advantage of “SME Export Customized Services” to form an export mentor team that conducted on-site visits to about 500 enterprises.
