    CDRI signed MOU with IDE-JETRO. International Forum on Taiwan-Japan Exchange

    The Commerce Development Research Institute (CDRI) signed an MOU with IDE-JETRO on October 22. The former was represented by CDRI President Hsieh Lung-Fa while the latter was represented by Director SHIRAISHI Takashi. CDRI and IDE-JETRO wish to bolster industrial development through mutual cooperation and jointly held an international forum on Taiwan-Japan exchange. Hsu Fu-Tien, Director of Department of Commerce, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), addressed the opening ceremony. Hsu Chung-Jen, Chairman of CDRI; SHIRAISHI Takashi , Director of IDE-JETRO; IKEWGAMI Hiroshi, research fellow of IDE-JETRO; and Huang Chao-Jen, Director of CDRI; delivered speeches and explored the new mode of Taiwan-Japan cooperation

    Wu Si-Hao, Deputy Director of CDRI, led a delegation to visit Japan in March with IDE-JETRO and a number of academic organizations. This resulted in the signing of the MOU between CDRI and IDE-JETRO. Hsieh Lung-Fa, President of CDRI, suggested that the two sides engage in substantive work in cooperation in the next two years to establish an alliance with mutual benefit and recourse sharing.

    After the ceremony, CDRI was commissioned by the Department of Commerce, MOEA, to execute the “Business Service Development Momentum Upgrade Scheme” and jointly hold an international forum with IDE-JETRO to allow the business service sector to understand the Japanese market better. The theme of the forum was “Taiwan-Japan Cooperation to Create Opportunities and Enter the New Markets of Asia”. Representatives from industry, government, and academia participated in the forum to explore the development of cooperation between Taiwan and Japan.

    Specialist Hsu Fu-Tien suggested that Japan has become an important trade partner for Taiwanese enterprises. The government of Taiwan has already held nine exchange meetings for bridging the cooperation with the industrial sector of Japan, and has held seven meetings of the Taiwan-Japan Industrial Cooperation Advocacy Committee.

    Chairman Hsu Chung-Jen shared the experience of 7-Eleven and its home delivery service, and is optimistic about the business opportunities in joint ventures with Japan in the development of the retirees and tourist industries. Director SHIRAISHI Takashi of IDE-JETRO presented an introduction while research fellow IKEGAMI Hiroshi of IDE-JETRO presented the topic of “Taiwanese and Japanese Policies Regarding Physical Logistics” introducing Taiwanese and Japanese logistics policies and sharing a few recent case studies. Director Huang Chao-Jen presented the topic of “Exploring Modes of Taiwan-Japan Cooperation and Opportunity” exploring mutual investments between Taiwan and Japan, and cooperation models in the service sector between Taiwan and Japan, and analyzed a few case studies. He concluded with suggestions for strategies and opportunities for mutual cooperation.
