    CDRI Business Practice Classroom x Business Opportunity in Health Service

    Innovative Business Mode + Cross-Industry Integration. Multilateral Solution for Health Planning.

    Commerce Development Research Institute (CDRI) launched its Business Practice Classroom today (24th) with the topic of “Creating Ubiquitous Business Opportunity in Health Service”. This topic puts together a number of popular topics on health. Many business firms in related industries were invited to the occasion. Chairman Hsu Chung-Jen of CDRI gave his presentation spelling out that the successful examples of the integration of the health industry and agriculture, tourism, and the society. The firms focus on their core value to create business opportunity in health service, extend the added value, and integrate with the features of different industries for differentiation in business opportunity in health service. They all wish to set up the model for the development of Taiwan business firms in the health industry.

    According to the forecasting of Deloitte (2015), the population of people over the age of 65 will be as many as 580 million worldwide or 1% of the total population by 2018. The average spending on medical service from 2014 to 2018 will grow by 2.4% in west Europe, 4.9% in North America, 8.1% in Asia and Australia, and 8.7% in the Middle East and Africa. People tend to be inclined to live in a healthy life nowadays. In the development into an aging society, business opportunity in health service has emerged as the market focus. Many enterprises made great efforts to invest in this area of business. In China, Ma Yun, the Chairman of the Alibaba Group, suggested, “the one who will surpass me will be the person in the health industry”. He held that the health industry will be a market with multi-trillion value and will attract the attention of all people worldwide.

    Acting Director of CDRI, Wu Shi-Hao, mentioned that Chairman Hsu assumed office 3 years ago, and started the Business Practice Classroom since then. He presented different theme for each quarter and held the lectures in different regions of northern, central and southern Taiwan. There were more 240 companies participating in the class and all hope to share and exchange with one another under the momentum of CDRI. Topics on health seemed to be the theme of the class lately. This has attracted the attendance of different business firms. We all expect as what Chairman Hsu said, that we are a “United Fleet”. We will fight hand-in-hand in industrial development, and make it bigger and stronger.

    Chairman Hsu made “Net thoughts in Health: Expansion in cross-industry cooperation for creating a happy society” as the theme and started from the practice of global enterprises. He briefed on the Tanita and Huis Ten Borsch Den Haag and the Elder Village of The Netherlands as examples where they mingled agriculture, tourism and the society. These include Tanita transformed from manufacturing (examination on health status) to service (worked in cooperation with PJ, an agricultural woman, and the Tanita Kitchen Recipes). Nagasaki Huis Ten Borsch Den Haag is engaged in joint ventures with the medical service industry and the medical universities through introducing new thoughts with gravity on a healthy heart, food health, leisurely walk, and health examination for establishing a health park. The elderly village of The Netherlands is another example. It provides a haven for the elderly victims of the Alzheimer disease in order to “Live my own way”. This village is in a community setting with professional caretakers. The patients can choose their own style of decoration. The nurses also play cashier staff and supermarket personnel in order to let the patients live a happy life. Statistics indicated that there was only one patient died since the establishment of this place in 2009.
