    Speech by Zhong Jia-de, Executive secretary of the Board of Science and Technology, Executive Yuan.

    Zhong Jia-de, the Executive secretary of the Board of Science and Technology of Executive Yuan paid us a visit in the afternoon on March 17th to deliver a speech on "Accelerating Mobile Broadband Services and Promoting Industrial Policies" to address issues regarding Taiwan's current status of 4G development, international next-generation mobile broadband development, acceleration of mobile broadband services and industrial development programs, and next-generation mobile broadband development strategy planning and more.

    Although Taiwan had a late start promoting 4G compared to advanced countries. As of January 31st 2015, however, the number of 4G users had exceeded 4 million. It is estimated that by 2018, the total revenue will amount to $150 billion, and the estimated cumulative total revenue of the 5 years to come would amount to $350 billion.

    Executive Secretary Mr. Zhong pointed out in his speech that in order to accelerate transformation of related industries, which would be beneficial for promoting economic momentum, the promotion of mobile broadband network construction can be accelerated, so that everyone can soon enjoy high-quality and affordable high-speed mobile broadband service as well as strengthen the development of application services, narrowing the urban-rural digital gap, which are just a few of the policy objectives to be achieved. The Board of Science and Technology of Executive Yuan invited 11 agencies including the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the National Communications Commission and more to jointly plan the "Development Program of Accelerating Mobile Broadband Services and Promoting Industrial Policies," moving forward in the following 5 directions: 1. Accelerate the construction of mobile broadband network; 2. Mobile broadband innovative applications and services; 3. Consumer protection; 4. Mobile broadband technology development action; 5. Broadband cutting-edge technology personnel training.
