    Taiwan and Japan Tourism Exchange Forum

    Commerce Development Research Institute (CDRI), Chairman of the Board, said CDRI is committed to the service industry in research and finding Taiwanese people travel to Japan has reached nearly 4.3 million people in 2016, accounting for about 1/3 of Taiwan's total traveling abroad, instead, Japanese people travel to Taiwan has only 189 million people at same year, a difference of 1.28 times. According to the Japan Tourism Department released data, nearly six years in addition to 2016 turn, Taiwanese tourists visit Japan has increased every year, on the other hand, the Ministry of Tourism, Taiwan Tourism Bureau announced that nearly five years that Japanese tourist consumption per capita has decreased year by year in deficit of nearly NTD 100 billion in 2015. In short, Taiwan and Japan tourism exchanges in the past five years, although the number of both sides are growing year after year, but Taiwan's tourism revenue and expenditure turn the surplus to deficit, and the deficit amount has increased year after year (deficit amount from NTD 196 billion in 2013, jumped to NTD 444 billion in 2014 and NTD 973 billion in 2015.) The amount of deficit is clearly multiplied, mainly due to the number of people traveling between Taiwan and Japan, Taiwanese people travel to Japan has accelerate their growth, but not vice versa, the gap is widening year by year, and the average consumption per person is still relatively small, but the Taiwanese people travel to Japan has increased year by year (by 2015, 33% higher than in 2011), the Japanese travel to Taiwan has decreased year by year (down 35%), the gap between the two sides is narrowing the spending capability. 

     

     Special Gathered Suggestions from Experts and Industry Owners as Follows:

     

    1.      The government should establish a common platform for tourism related information for networking, providing large data analysis, timely and fully to industry and local government to adjust the marketing layout and strategy. 

    2.      Taiwan in electronic and mobile payment should synchronized with Japan. For example, the Taiwan airport should be able to synchronize with airport in Tokyo, the domestic hotels should also have integrated and connected with the whole city, to attract Japan young tourists. 

    3.      Domestic tour guides should be young and with diversified licenses to enhance the quality and efficiency of the job. 

    4.      To strengthen the theme of tourism, the characteristics of marketing, the design and planning by the local government, industry and corporate to associate regional integration in marketing, to attract Japanese take vacation, student take field trip, religious group and athletes to come to Taiwan. 

    5.      To enhance the city sightseeing website, APP content, technical content, functional efficiency for friendliness, to attract more global young tourists. 

    6.      The location of the equipment and public facilities should in sync with Japan, such as installation of washlet toilet seats to avoid the gap of living habits and quality. 

    7.      Deepening, refining, fun stories to enhance the tourist attractions and return rates. 

    8.      To increase the local government in Japan's regional and city marketing activities, widen the tourists from Taipei city to central and southern Taiwan. 

    9.      Taiwan “Long Stay” has good reviews in Japan, but the domestic “Long Stay” supply and quality are still lacking, should be improved immediately. 

    10.  Shortage of seats for public transportation to Hualian and Taitung, should seek to improve. For example, to encourage domestic airlines to increase the rate of foreign passenger occupancy, and with the voyage route to allow the award.  

    11.  Japan has prepared to allow Taiwanese tourists to E-pay directly from Taiwan bank account. Taiwan should reciprocate the same.
