2018 Business Reform Trend Forum kicked off today, Tain-Tsair Hsu: Revolution in blockchain technology – Transition of digital economy into the second epoch – CDRI & RTI signs MOU to begin partnership

Commerce Development Research Institute (hereafter referred to as CDRI) hosted the “2018 Business Reform Trend Forum – Commercial Application of AI + BlockChain + DDS” today (8th) at the First Lecture Hall of Taipei Tech’s General Building of Colleges. The presentations encompassed the 4 major facets of applications: smart grid, smart transportation, smart medical care and smart manufacturing. Each day, the presentations were attended by over 400 people from different industries. Real-Time Innovations Co. (hereafter referred to as RTI)’s Director of Sales in Asia Pacific was invited to share his experiences of DDS (Data Distribution Service) application in smart grid and smart transportation over the past 16 years.

CDRI and RTI also signed an MOU at the “2018 Business Reform Trend Forum – Commercial Application of AI + BlockChain + DDS” today to forge a partnership for future collaborations focused on 4 major directions, including: 1. Conduct joint analysis and research or execute a joint research program; 2. Co-host various forums and seminars; 3. Share knowledge with each other by organizing workshops, exchanging opinions or through joint publications; 4. Provide each other with facilitations or referrals in terms of relations with local academia, industry or governments in order to engage in substantial exchanges and collaborations.

According to CDRI Chairman Tain-Tsair Hsu, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to mainstream products and services, as well as open collaboration through blockchain have endowed industry with innovation and sharing of new opportunities. The integration of AI and blockchain has created decision support system (DSS) with the most dependable technical support. At the same time, it is also the main technical foundation on which future innovations and drastic industry reforms are based. However, problems such as digital technology development setbacks or hacking can evolve into unimaginable disasters if they are not kept in check. This is not only an unavoidable economic tidal wave but a grand revolution that will redefine the new cultural values of humanity.

Blockchain is distributed ledger technology. Just like cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, it provides a way to record and transmit data in a transparent, secure, auditable and interruption proof manner. Now, with the addition of DDS and the industry, government and society are willing to cooperate, the technology has the ability to become more transparent, democratic, dispersed, efficient and secure.

As the person who singlehandedly facilitated the forum, Tain-Tsair Hsu suggested that in the time of reform, the first generation of digital revolution is already underway, including a dazzling array of technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things), mobile payment, smart shops, e-commerce, O2O (online to offline), new retail, omni-channel and smart manufacturing. However, with the emergence of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin - often associated with controversies and complex speculations – how does blockchain, the very foundation of the Bitcoin economy, become the new cornerstone of digital revolution? How does it shape the new world economy/order and achieve the benefits of weeding out the weak and retaining the strong? How is it closely associated with AI, and how does the mysterious DDS (Data Distribution System) make blockchain or IoT virtual market systems more flexible and secure? The issue of network information security warrants special attention. Consequently, since we are in the age of smart economy, it is imperative that we strive to keep abreast of the latest trends in this digital revolution.
